Position Announcement - Supervisor of Assessments for County of Kankakee
Kankakee County is actively seeking applicants for the position of Supervisor of Assessments. This position reports directly to the County Board Chairman while working closely with the county board’s community services committee, and is responsible for directing the functions of the county assessment office as required by the Illinois property tax code. Our community is located approximately 50 miles south of Chicago with a population of 113,000 according to the 2009 census estimate.

The County of Kankakee’s Assessment Office is located in the County Administration Building, at 189 E. Court Street, Kankakee, IL.
The County of Kankakee Assessment Department operates with a staff of 7-9 employees. The key function of the Assessment Office is to direct the countywide valuation of real estate property for the purpose of real estate taxation.
Kankakee County has 14 Township and multi-Township Assessors in 17 Townships, 53,000 parcels, and a total equalized assessed value of $2,255,000,000.

Mercer County, IL: CHIEF COUNTY ASSESSMENT OFFICER
Mercer County (pop. 17,000), located in the central western region along the Mississippi River is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief County Assessment Officer. The CCAO will direct activities related to real property assessments in order to provide a tax base for property taxes and for timely completion of the assessment process and serves as Clerk of the Board of Review. This position will supervise 4 employees who specialize in assessments and mapping. The CCAO will report directly to the Chairman of the Assessment Committee and to the Mercer County Board Chairman. This position will direct the department as required by the Illinois Property Tax Code.

Sangamon County, IL: Chief Deputy Township Assessor/Tax Extension Clerk
CHIEF DEPUTY TOWNSHIP ASSESSOR
- Develop a full working knowledge of the Capital Township (approximately 54,000 parcels) mass appraisal system, which includes the listing and valuation of all land and building improvements in the township.
- Apply knowledge of the appraisal system in dealing with the general public, other related offices, and other interested parties, as well as the preparation of evidence and testimony in assessment appeals, and to act as a representative of the office with respect to any other assessment matter.
TAX EXTENSION CLERK
- Develop a full working knowledge of the property tax levying and extension process, which includes familiarity with all property tax-related documents filed by the taxing districts lying within Sangamon County, as well as the application of the statutes governing tax rate calculations and tax extension amounts.
- Apply knowledge of the levying process in dealing with the general public, other related offices, the taxing districts and/or their legal counsel, and other interested parties, and to act as a representative of the office in relation to all tax levying/extension matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess a strong background in property tax administration or a related field, general knowledge of the real estate market, a working knowledge of personal computers, excellent mathematical and communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
